Simple Ways to Stay Active When You Don’t Have Time to Exercise

Most often, when asked why they’re not more physically active, people say that it’s due to the lack of time. However, modern society, in general, seems to have evolved so much that any sort of physical activity almost entirely phased out of our daily lives. In the workspace, physical activity has been – for the most part – replaced by automation. At our homes, we no longer have to spend the entire day meticulously scrubbing and cleaning – we now have vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, and washing machines to do most of the job for us.

So, how come we no longer have the time to get physically active when everything seems to be working in our favor? And how can we still stay active even when we don’t really have the time to do so? Here’s how.

Simple Ways to Stay Active

Save time by being active

Contrary to popular belief, you can actually save some time by choosing to be more active. It has become so natural for people to take the elevator even when they’re not going too high and spend time waiting for a bus even when they’re not going far. Instead of wasting your time waiting for the elevator to come, you can choose to take the stairs and – in most cases – reach your destination even before the elevator arrives. The same applies to situations where you spend time waiting for a bus. Instead, hop onto your bike and enjoy some physical activity while getting to your destination. Besides, that way you don’t have to worry about inhaling weird smells and toxic fumes in public transport.

Add more activity to your day

You’d be surprised just how much time you actually have every day to dedicate to more physical activity but you simply choose not to. If you take some time and make an “activity” sheet where you’ll note down everything you need to get done in the week ahead, you’ll be able to see where you can easily squeeze in a couple of active minutes. For instance, instead of driving to your friend’s house, why not run? Alternatively, if you don’t like running and getting all sweaty, you can choose to walk there. Sure, it might take you a bit longer to get there, but the benefits you’ll feel after a nice walk will be more than enough to motivate you to do it again. Just make sure you’re wearing the proper footwear, like the walking shoes at WALKJOGRUN, to ensure that you stay comfortable.

Choose to do things differently

As mentioned before, we do a lot of things automatically, without really thinking about them. For instance, the majority of us are looking to park as close as possible to our destination when going somewhere with our cars. However, if you choose to park further away, not only will you be more likely to actually find a spot, but you’ll also be able to squeeze in a light walk. On the other hand, if you’re working in an office and spend a lot of time sitting behind a computer, see if there’s any way you can get yourself a standing desk. This way, you will be able to alter between different positions and become more active than you normally would. Finally, choose to up your home maintenance game and try to do more chores than you normally would. Increase the number of times you vacuum your entire home and try to dust your bookshelves more frequently. This will not only provide you with more physical activity but it will also make your home more clean and pleasant to live in.

The key to staying more active when you don’t really have the time to do so is to simply make more time. Physical activity doesn’t only boil down to hitting the gym or going for a long run. There are actually so many ways you can stay active without having to dedicate any particular time to it.
